Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how GuardNivo (“we”, “us” or “our”) handles information when you use the Privacy Guard browser extension and the GuardNivo website.
1. What Privacy Guard does
Privacy Guard changes your browser’s default search provider to a search service operated through guardnivo.com. When you enter a search into your browser’s address bar or search box, the search term is sent to our search endpoint so that we can process the request and provide or redirect you to search results.
2. Information we process
Depending on how you use the extension and website, we may process:
- Search queries: the words or phrases you submit through the browser after Privacy Guard becomes your default search provider.
- Technical and usage information: IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, requested URL, date and time, and similar server-log information.
- Installation and removal events: the extension contacts our installation page when first installed and may open our uninstall page after removal.
- Communications: information you choose to provide when contacting us by email.
3. How we use information
We use information only where reasonably necessary to:
- deliver search requests and provide the extension’s disclosed functionality;
- operate, maintain, troubleshoot and secure the extension and website;
- measure reliability and understand aggregated service usage;
- detect fraud, abuse, malicious activity or technical faults;
- respond to support requests and other communications; and
- comply with applicable legal obligations.
4. Search providers and other third parties
Search queries may be passed to a third-party search provider in order to return search results. That provider may process information under its own privacy policy. Your browser, internet provider and websites you visit may also process information independently of Privacy Guard.
We may also use infrastructure providers, such as hosting, security and technical service providers, to operate GuardNivo. These providers may process limited information on our behalf only as needed to provide their services.
5. Advertising and sale of information
We do not sell your personal information. Information received through the extension will not be used or transferred for personalised advertising, retargeting, credit assessment or sale to data brokers.
6. Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Our use of information received from Chrome APIs will comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We limit collection, use and transfer of user data to what is necessary to provide and support the extension’s disclosed single purpose.
7. Cookies and local storage
The extension does not require an account. The GuardNivo website may use essential cookies or similar storage where needed for security, functionality or basic service operation. We do not use cookies through the extension for personalised advertising.
8. Data retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including security, troubleshooting, legal and operational requirements. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and why it is processed. We may retain aggregated or anonymised information that no longer identifies an individual.
9. Data security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or loss. Search and website traffic is transmitted using HTTPS. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
10. International processing
Our service providers and search partners may process information in countries outside your own. Where required, we take reasonable steps to use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
11. Your choices and rights
You can stop using Privacy Guard at any time by changing your default search provider or uninstalling the extension. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of or objection to certain processing of your personal information.
Because we do not require an account, we may not always be able to connect server-log or search information to a particular person. We may ask for reasonable information to verify and locate data connected with a request.
12. Children
Privacy Guard is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our extension, website, partners or legal obligations change. We will publish the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date. Where required, material changes to data handling will also be disclosed to users.
14. Contact
